Dobby & Jaquard weaves are complex fabrics produced on a jacquard loom  This weave produces fabrics with pictures or intricate designs that typically have a sizable repeat Several varieties of jacquard weaves are produced. Damask is a jacquard weave that is a fabric with designs created from satin floats on a relatively smooth background.

Satin is glossy, smooth and sleek. It has one shiny side and one dull side The floating weft threads make it slick and luxurious but that also makes it challenging to tailor. It is difficult to keep in place on the sewing table and it slips easily under sewing machine feet. Cut edges fray quickly
